The Forbidden City

One day we went to the Forbidden City. It was super fun.

This is what the internet says about the city:

The Forbidden City is not actually a city at all, but the Imperial Palace complex in Beijing from which the Chinese emperors ruled their empire for centuries. It was called the Forbidden City because it was forbidden for commoners or even uninvited nobility to enter its sacred precincts.

The largest royal complex in the world, it was constructed over a fourteen year period, from 1407 to 1420, during the Ming Dynasty. It was the home and center of government for 24 emperors of China through the end of the Ming Dynasty and the entirety of the Qing (Ch'ing) Dynasty, until the overthrow of Imperial Rule in the early part of the Twentieth Century.

We saw the stairs that only the emperor could walk on. It had a big middle with a long dragon. That's where only the emperor walked.

I saw this cool gold design; it's one of the photo.

When we were there, we saw big courtyards and lots of buildings. The buildings can be called pagodas. A pagoda is "a tiered tower with multiple eaves common in China." My mother taught me that word.

That's all for now!!

My life in China

Hi,
It's lucas.
I am having a fun time in china.
I like to play badminton with my new friends, which are Patrick, Thomas, and Aaron.
I am having a fun time at my school. there is a lot of equipment like a soccer fields, a basketball court, ropes you can play on, hula hoops and best of all, four-square.
People played that at my school in Cincinnati.

Every Saturday we go out on a new adventure.
Last Saturday we went to a cool art district. I posted that on Sunday.
We went to Lama Temple; I'll write about that later.
We went to the Forbidden City; I'll write about that later, too.
My favorite of all of them was Summer Palace.
And drum tower!

We have an ayi and a driver. My mom loves that. An ayi is someone who cleans the house and she does all out laundry and makes us dinner. I think that's my mom's favorite part!

I go to school by the bus. It's a little funny. I would be able to bike to school but it's a too busy road.

At school everyday, we start the day with a morning meeting. The morning meeting is where we do an activity and a greeting like a fist bump.

We have two recesses; they want us to learn about our bodies, motion and speed, and loco-motor skills at PE.

We have CHinese everyday. I learn new words like ni xihuan putao ma? which means "do you like grapes." If you like grapes, you answer "wo xihuan."

The best thing about school is the after school activities. On Monday I get to teach my origami class something from my origami books. On Tuesdays I have Great Wall runners, which is a running club. We have a big run on Thursday. It's called the Terry Fox Run.

My piano and guitar teacher is really good. His name is Andrew. He is 25. He teaches both. The other piano teacher didn't seem fun so we fired her.

AT school, we learned about dry ice one day.
When you pick it up with tongs it makes a sizzling sound like "ssssssssssssssssssssssssssss."
If you put it in a tennis ball container that holds 3 tennis balls and you put dry ice in it and water, too, and you put the top on it, it explodes the top off of it and the cap flies over the air.

Thank you for reading my blog.
I will be posting a lot more.
I miss you and wish you will write to me.

Zai jian!

Lucas

The photo is me on the first day of school. There is a rock climbing wall there!
